Hi ladies! Sorry I'm late.
This week, I think we should do a little reflecting.
Think back to the readings that we have done, our blog post last week, and our guest speaker, Melanie Alston. By now we've heard and read so much about the PARCC exams, but I'm sure that we still have questions. What questions do you still have that you wish had been addressed? What (if anything) surprised you about what our guest speaker had to say about the PARCC?
Also, for your reference, Melanie Alson's email address is malston@fdu.edu
I was most surprised when Melanie told us the time frame in which schools would get their student's test scores back. October of the next school year is RIDICULOUS! What is the point of testing if the score cannot assist schools with placement and educational programs? Also, what is the point of testing on-line or on an electronic device if the scoring time is not shorter? I do not have anymore questions because I have a basic understanding of everything but I still do not understand WHY students are being subjected to this test that does not seem to be that organized if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Frankie that when the scores come back did surprise me as well. I was also surprised to hear that they have to be tested this month and then again near the end of the year. I don't see how it is fair to be testing kids so much, and especially without knowing how the test this month went before taking another! I was also surprised to hear that schools could opt for a paper test, because one of my main concerns with PARCC was under-privileged schools not being able to take the test.
